So I just got a plie of new stuff :)! I bought a Music XPC C3 PRO, a Pre Sonus Firepod and some KRK ROKIT 5 monitors. I also ordered a Shure KSM 32 but that hasn't shown up yet.

So I recorded this song with my new stuff, and it still isn't that great but its a huge leap from my old stuff. It sounds good in my monitors but sounded wierd through a pair of sennheiser phones (too much bass).

Drums are a loop from the web. Guitar is a Marshall Mode four miced with an sm57 and D.I.'ed. Bass is DI into the firepod, with some distortion added in amplitube. Vocals recorded with a Studio Projects B1.

It's a screamo tune, so there's screaming in it, nothing too crazy though, just a warning for some of you old guys :P :D

Any advice, critism, comments would be greatly aprpeciated. I'm trying to learn everything I can here to make great recordings.

The song is called: The Agony of being shot through the heart

I'm not sure what songs like these are really supposed to sound like. To me, the guitar sounds pretty thin and the bass has absolutely no meat. I think the whole mix really is lacking bass severely.

Yeah, I'm having a really hard time getting good wide recording while doing electric distortion. I can get great clean electric guitar but distortion is a confusing and complex world to me. You'd think I could get some decent tones... Gibson Les Paul Studio, Marhall Mode Four mic'd with an sm57 2-3 inches away slightly off axis. Maybe it's my room? (an untreated bed room). But I'm sure I could get some better tone with a litle help :)?

Normal micing an amp at higher volumes won't hear too much of the room. Well remember that the sound you "hear" isn't the sound that you "record". Try backing WAY off the gain. Track it twice that way and pan em out.
