new eminem album

I just listened to the new Em CD. I think it's a pretty good record overall, maybe not his best but check out Squaredance! It's hilarious. I want to see what everybody else thinks about the mix on this album. It sounds like the drums are too loud. I don't mean the kick, sure it's loud in the bottom, Brian Gardner is a bad man. But, this is the kick, snare and hihat. They sound like they are 'stuck' out front. No Eq'ing will bring them down in relation to the rest of the instruments and vocals. Since they cover a wide frequency range from low to high, I don't think it's an eq problem. I really think the mix is wierd. What yall think?
 
I think eminem doesn't really give a fuck cuz he know he'll sell 5 million albums.

For all those questions I see in here about what to price a CD at...here's a hint......I bought the eminem album for $13.99 @ Strawberries and it has 20 tracks plus a DVD.........Do the math
 
Did another listen on this. I think that out front drum sound is used real nice on 'closet', and then it's like they kept that mix on some other songs where it doesn't fit. If ther's a hihat it really sounds odd. Maybe it's just me. I got NO taste anyway. sol is right tho, nice rythm overall, even vox.

eventually laj thye will......He is an incredible word smith and definately entertaining to listen to...I just don't know how many albums that formula will work for, but we'll see
 
Think that they'll grow tired cause they realise it's a tried formula, or they just get sick of his antics/want new antics frim somebody new????

Personally I think EM keepin it real. Listen closely to the lyrics he spits he's not your typical emcee. Also, I must admit the beats are hot on his joints too.
 
OK everybody knows he spits out atypical flows (read:shock value), but man what are so hot about his beats??? Hell what the hell is a hot beat anyways??? Yeah, they are hot enough to rumble your average 2000$$$ car system, and over-compressed to death, but there's little to no musical value in his shit, IMO. Just rumble rumble tiss tsh bullshit that sounds cool with a blunt to the head and enough bass so that all you hear is what you're bobbin your head to, or is that the point, is that what makes it hot???? He's just like Kiss, or Marilyn Manson, or whoever else that just whores out their talents (which are obvious and inarguable) for the allmighty dolla, I think the last thing EM be doing is keepin it real. Again just my opinion....

I guess I'm just not a fan of what Hip-Hop culture seems to stand for, alot of the time in the US anyways. I LOVE old Rakim, KRS, Afrikka Bambatta; I LOVE Outkast, Mos Def, Tricky, NAS' first two albums; hell Massive Attack's prolly my second favorite act of all time, of all genres. DJ Shadow (who I'm catching tonight, yeeeeah!) is one of my fav DJs, as is Spooky, and both spin atleast half hip-hop style beats, atleast. So I like hip-hop beats a whole lot, I ride a vibe of round 85-95 bpm in my own tunes, alot of my beats are almost totally hip-hop based. I just don't like dudes exchangin their talent/art for dollas, which is the case all over the scene, and the majority of them don't even apologize for it, or think twice, it seems like that's the goal, don't matter what you sacrifice to get there. Maybe it's just me..........I guess the majority of the BIZ is like that anyways, shit the whole world is, I'm fucked, we're all fucked..............errrr............sorry bout that....

laj, shut up. It makes me sick when I hear people yapping about how they hate artists for "selling out." What total bullshit. The music biz is one of the most cut-throat games in existence--anyone who is successful has nothing but my congratulations. Its not easy to reach the top: it requires a lot of talent, charisma, but most of all, it requires an incredible level of drive and commitment. The only reason people succeed in music is because they love it--and who wouldn't want to get paid for doing something they love?

Just because you're not making money, dont HATE on the ones who are. Seriously.

If you read any of the previous posts you'd see, for one, I never even used the term "sell out" and that my original gripe with Eminem's new album, was in regards to him sticking to the same formula, not evloving as an artist (which I consider him), or as a musician. This IMO is fuckin lame. I hear where you are comin from in that somebody who gets success has most likely earned it, and should be given respect for doing so; I agree, no doubt. The thing I think is shity is that the goal for these cats isn't to grow as artists, or to have as many people as possible "feel" them, it's to get money, hoes, and fame and that's it. There is no "selling out" cause they never had anything that even resembled integrity. With Em, I think it's a bit different. He's not really sellin out, he's just sticking with the formula that made him famous, not challenging anybody, just being content to be an entertainer like Britney and the rest. This is what sucks to me, cause he's got the talent, he's done the work to earn respect, but if he continues to just stick to being a product as opposed to an artist, he's gonna fade, no fall, and that'd be a waste of a talented artist who merits respect. That's my point, go and fuck yourself if you think I'm just bithcing about "sell outs" I'm not....

Great album

I haven't gotten a chance to look at the credits.But my gut feelin tells me that Eminem produced a great number of tracks on this album.Its a winner for sure.....I see 4-5 million sold.....
 
I hope he's saving his dough.

I imagine it won't be too long before he is roomates with Vanilla Ice.....But, you never know.... The Beatie boys stayed in the game for quite a long time....

I like his stuff too... so Im not bashing him... im just being realistic..
 
Laj35- I agree with you but you also have to consider that artist who don't stick to there formula fade as well. I think eminem is playing a three sides right now or three different audiences. You have the underground eminem you hear on mixtape and various artists CD's like Lyricist lounge then you have the Pop Eminem. (That's self explanatory) Then you have the dark eminem which you hear the personal side of him and why his fame has caused him some problems. I tend to think eminem knows all the the niches in the hip hop market. He is really more versatile than you might think although he has'nt changed much. I have never purchased and eminem cd but I have purchased several mixed CD's just because of the songs he had on them. I tend to like more the underground stuff em has put out. His popular stuff is a little to generic for me like you said.

That's a really good point, his underground stuff really is tight, and there's no doubt that it hits hard. The problem is, the PopEM is the daddy in the family there, brings home the bacon, and hence prolly has the final say, which will most likely end up puttin EM w/ Vanilla like VOX said...

Yeah true...but I doubt he will ever end up like vanilla ice. As long as he continues to provide music for all three audiences instead of one audience like vanilla ice did which was pop. The hype will still be there. People always want to hear what he's going to say next even if they don't like him. N.W.A was notorious for that even though half of the crew's delivery was weak. Em's potential (or hype) is why people will continue to support his half ass efforts. Take Jay Z, Nas, and Snoop who had great first albums. They have also come out with some half azz LP's after that but people still go to the record store and purchase thier albums. It's all about marketing and having a wide market. They all have 3 or 4 different type of people who listen to thier music. As long as they provide for those people they are going to keep buying thier music. But your right though about EM having to change. Well not really change but he just needs to add another audience or put more effort into his underground audience to last just as long as the other artists I just mentioned. Jay Z's last LP created a new audience of listeners. Jay Z and his camp are smart peoples.
