A .GOG file is a collection of PCM data formatted for Drumagog. You can take, say 12 or 16 different snare hits of various energies and velocities and combine them into a snare .gog file. When you put Drumagog across a track (it's a DX plugin) you can replace the existing snare, dynamics and all, with the snare sounds from the GOG file.

It's pretty bad-ass - I've played around with drumagog. Mostly fun stuff, like replacing kick drums with snares and making tom rolls go from low to high instead. But with the right drum sounds, you can turn a crappy sounding kit into a masterpiece.

Yes, you can. I made one or two - It's sort of a giantic pain in the ass that you can't get rid of. I know that Jason gets about a zillion different kits in that place, so this collection doesn't surprise me...

can you make your own gog files?

Sure you can make your own .gog files! But the ones you make will be of drum sets that you have access to. You might have the best equipment and the coolest room to record in, but I have access to a lot of different drumsets that are not very common. The advantage to getting my collection, is that you now have different sounds that you couldn't come up with on your own and you didn't spend months recording, cutting, editing, and fiddling with it to make it work.

just to be clear, is drumagog a similiar product as drumkit from hell and BFD? is it basically a set of drum samples that you can use to artifically create drum parts for your songs? I'm in the market for a product like this. I checked out drumkit form hell and it is pretty cool but not for my type of music, it's too rock'ish. I really like BFD but it's too expensive....

It's actually meant for drum replacement, say you record a drummer and the kick drum sounds bad for some reason (either you don't like the sound or there was something technically wrong) well you can actually set the program to only "hear" the kick drum and then trigger a sampled sound. I've used it to replace cheap drum machine sounds.

Hey Farview,

I'm thinking Drumagog IS the answer for me. I've got a decent studio setup but a terrible kit and no knowledge of drum tuning (or playing, for that matter). Thanks for opening my eyes to this one.

Also, welcome to the board, fellow Illinoisian! I checked out your site. Muy impressivo!

Yeh drumagog is the business.

The mic I use for my kick drum has crapped out so instead of recording the wondrous tones emanating from the big Pearl shell, all I get is a nasty buzzing noise. However because each buzz corresponds to a beater hit and the fact that I get a loud buzz when I jump on the pedal, and a not so loud one when I don't, I can use drumagog as a kick buzz replacer, until I can afford a new mic.

Isn't technology beautiful sometimes?

Stone,
Thanks for the welcome, you've gotr a nice looking studio. BTW, I don't know if you noticed but Drumagog is in Illinois as well.

hey stone, nice studiosetup,
i got real curious when i saw that THING you got for your drums ,that platfoam...

can you tell me something more about it ? i mean, is it like an entire kit you Buy ? or did you morelike build it yourself ?
and do you realy hear a difference in the sound that you record ?

i got my drumkit in a room with junky accoustics;..and any improvement is welcome !

cheers,

Cool trick

Another cool thing to do with DrumaGog, is to set it up on a armed track and play live drums on your table. You can use your hands or sticks even two pens.

Fun.

Yeah. it's a kit from Auralex, like the flyer says.

It comes with two tubes of adhesive and enough foam to make a pretty damn big platform. You can see pics of mine and I didn't use nearly all of it. I had enough left over to make a "gramma pad" for my cyberTwin.

As far as it's impact, I hear the drums less through the walls when I track now than before I used it. Less bleed onto other tracks is a huge plus.

Is the sound that much better? I'm not sure as I haven't worked a session with better drums since I got it. Just the house piece of kit. :D

I can't remember exactly but I think the whole kit was in the neighborhood of $120 or so. I bought directly from Auralex.
