New Dell laptops have serious problem with firewire interfaces

Dell's have had this problem for years. There were post on this topic back in 2003.

The previous problem could be solved by buying a fw card with the TI chipset. This problem currently has no solution.
 
I have a Dell Core Duo laptop (the same kind as the one described in that topic) but the internal firewire port works fine for my Firebox. It seems the problem does not affect Presonus gear from what other people posted in that other topic too.

I recall one person in that thread having a problem with Presonus and one didn't. The one that didn't was using a third party firewire driver that he purchased which only works with Presonus. Ironically that person was able to use the internal firewire connection but an expansion firewire card did not work.
