Sorry for the spam look

I apologize for the spam look, but I changed my user id and password. I've been posting on this form for like 5 years now. I have helped plenty of people in this section of the forum (even put a verse on a song for prettychica), but I was primarily in the other sections. I own a small but successful studio, in which I work full-time, due in major part to this site. That's why I posted. Plus its just snippets. Check it out if you like, but if you don't care to, I understand. I will make an honest effort to get in here more often to help out those who really want to learn. I started from scratch like alot of the people on this board, so I understand what its like to wanna sound good, but to lack the tools. I also understand that some of you are trying to actually make money and have a career, and I can help as far as schooling, techniques etc. I ain't looking for issues/beef, I'm looking to be of help. And I'm gonna get back my investment for my album, while at the same time entertaining.

Thanx for the compliments and constructive guidance. I didn't go to Full Sail. The main reason is because you can't work with the schedule they give you. I started to go to ARTI, but my job would let me out with only 30 minutes to get there at 5 in the afternoon, so I would be late everyday. So I did the next best thing. I just paid money every month to go to a nice studio and try things out. I read all the magazines, like Mix, Eq, Recording, etc. I've been at it since 1994, so I grew with time. Right now I am starting to mature engineering wise, because I'm learning how to use eq effectively. You might hear some more of my work in the next few months. One of the artists I'm doing an album for is gonna be released on about 100 national stations. His first single is "Shoulda seen her", and then the next will be "Shawty". His name is Smitty James, so if you hear it let me know!! They may not play "Shoulda seen her" because his real version says mother$!ker about 800 times, but he changed it to mothersucker in the radio edit. It still sounds close, but thats what he wanted. Is anyone trying to go to Full Sail? My best friend works there, and my engineer went.

im moving to florida here in a month and i was thinking about going there for a while but its just too much money and ive already learned so much on my own and from forums like this one that i think id rather just do it all on my own. but i am curious to hear what it is like because ive never actually talked to anybody whos been there. maybe down the road if the path im about to take doesnt work out and i can come up with the money i will go there, but id definetly like to hear your opinion on it.

Man, hit me up when you get in! Full Sail is what you make it. If you can afford to not have a job for 12 months, you may survive. The schedule is crazy with labs at 1am and things like that. It's great because you can network and work on gear that most people would dream of. They have rooms with mics people would dream of having access to, and then they have like a whole fleet of them.
The downside is many people go with the impression that it entitles them to a job in the industry which it does not. Personally, I don't think I'd actively seek one of their graduates again. I've had 5+ in my studio and their DAW knowledge has been less than adequate. They have book knowledge, but working in the field syncing equipment, and recording actual clients has not been strong. If you make it your goal to be tight, then thats one thing. If not your gonna end up in another career. You also gotta do the math. Full Sail takes in a class every month. Each class may have 200+ students. At $36,000/ person, they're doing millions. Where are the jobs for 200 graduates a month? Their placement department doesn't place that many students with gigs. They mostly get free internships. My dawg works in their placement department, so I know. I know he desperately is trying for change. I think they should shift the focus to smaller DAW based systems which is more likely where most grads have a chance to work. If you really get in there and soak every last ounce up, you will have skills you can't get anywhere else. Also meet everyone you can so you have contacts in the future.

yea the things you said seem to correspond with what i heard from everyone else. thanks a lot for the advice!
