Hello everyone, i'm new to the site, just signed up right now actually.. I've had a home studio for about 7 months now and i've just been so agrivated on how my sound is coming out.. I really think i need to upgrade and buy a better mic than the AKG perception 220 its just ive been putting in money weekley to buy different nessecitys for the studio. I mainly record Hip Hop vocals and alot of Acoustic stuff. Does anybody have any suggestions on any particular microphones i should take alook at that are decent in price? cause i know thats the main reason on why im not getting the sound i want right now : (

SCHOOL ME.

yeah i just done an album using a 220 thru a universal audio pre in a pro studio and loved it whats the rest of your setup?

i need to invest in a pre-amp im pretty sure too.. i have a small room studio and just started really investing into it. but i have an AKG perception 220, fully soundproofed booth, Pro-Tools LE, KRK RP6-G2 6 inch monitors, Digidesign M-audio Mini M box, Sennheiser HD 280 pro, ect. IDK.. im just trying to get this studio on its feet, and i need some tips and mabe some suggestions on how to do so.

Suggesting Microphones are a shot in the dark I can tell you what works for me but it may not be what will work for you.
Take a look at an EV RE20 I think you'll be happy with that microphone.
And if your just looking to add to your arsenal of microphones look in the free ad section here At HR there seems to be a lot of people selling microphones now.

What is your budget?

If it's not too much, the new Sennheiser MK 4 may be worth a look.

Only $300. John! I can't believe that there hasn't been more hype about the MK4.

WoW! that mk4 looks incredible for its price! does anyone have expierence with it or have tried using it for that matter? remember im recording vocals usually all the time Hip Hop lyrics, to singing, to acoustics. but its weird sometimes with my AKG perception 220.. it seems somedays ill get a respectable sound out of it and then others its just not where i want it. and the EV RE20 looks pretty dope moresound but it seems like more of a brodcasting studio microphone how is it for vocals and ect.?

It was launched at NAMM a week or two ago and I understand it is available now.

There is an optional suspension for it with a cut-away ring at the front so you can get in close without the ring getting in the way.

I understand it will be like the one Neumann are doing with the TLM 102 special edition
