I'm about to purchase a new computer which I will use mainly for mastering at first, but then maybe some recording. I still can't decide between a Mac or PC. I'm considering one of those Apple G3's with a virtual pc. Any pro's or con's to either of these three ideas?? Thanks.

I'm not about to get caught up in any religious wars! But a virtual PC for multitrack audio recording is a bad idea, since audio is so CPU-intensive anyway. There's just no bandwidth to spare for that sort of thing!

Dragon, that's a good point. Would that hold true even if I used the Mac side for recording or doesn't it make a difference? I really don't know a whole lot about computers so forgive my ignorence.

Wasn't there a link a while ago to some company that sells computers specifically for recording, soundcard and all?
I tried a search, but with no luck.

Dragon,
Consisder the fact there are no (that I know of) dual processing macs out there *grin*.
Most (good) dev software ios multi threaded.
The dual or quad processing PC is better for the job. And if you want band width buy an SGI.

I don't have anything against mac though.

I don't think the Mac is dual processing, it just has a virtual PC in it. If anyone is curios, it is called PowerMac G3. You can check it out at www.apple.com The only reason I am considering this is because I can get one real cheep, but it won't be worth it if I'll need another comp. for recording.
