I want to build a new computer for recording and need to know what to buy. Well I know what I need and how to build a PC, but I need to know which motherboard, CPU, hard-drive, CDRW, etc to buy. I don't want to spend a load of money. I think this can be done for 500-600 bucks.

Just make me a list from A-Z and the best place to get everything.

ummmm....a little demanding are we? do some research on the net. good place to start on prices: http://www.pricewatch.com

if you know what you need and how to build one then you should be already set to go

Just to the point. Otherwise you'll have people telling you all kind of crap. Like buy a 4 track tape and mic the speaker in to a PDA.

I've heard that some motherboards hard-drives etc are better for recording than others.

Like AMD ATHLON, Intell, which one is better for recording

Get an Asus P4P800 mobo, a P4, a gig of Asus certified ram, 2 Seagate Barracuda SATA drives, 400W power supply, ATI Radeon AGP card.

This setup works for me
