When I first got into computer recording a while back I used Cooledit Pro which ended up becoming adobe audition. Now all I use now is Sonar and have grown very comfortable with over the last few years. I tried a few different recording programs before sticking with Sonar 7 which is what i currently use. It really all comes down to personal preference I guess. As long as you learn the software you will pretty much be able to get the job done with nearly any software out there. You just want to find the one that you can work well with. There are plenty of demos available to try out before you decide to stick with one.
