New Card?

I'm in the market to upgrade my sound card. Here are my needs:

1) Minimum 8 i/o.
2) Expansion capabilities in the future. 2 to 3 same cards in 1 PC for 16 to 24 i/o total (not important at the present but will need in the near future).
3) Budget price below $500 (1 card for now).
4) Multi software compatibility (Sonar, CEP, Nuendo,. etc).
5) Midi i/o.
6) Multi-platform compatibility (windows/mac).

The budget price is just for 1 card right now. Expansion will be done later on.

Here are what I've been looking at:

1)MM audio 1010 (rackmount or lt).
2) Terratec ews88mt.
3) motu 828 firewire (portability whici I might be doing later).
4) Echo products.

I've been looking at the 828 myself lately. I've heard many great things about them, but always from Mac users. I've heard one or two complaints about PC compatibility. Any PC users running with the 828 have any comments?
