i'm trying to build a home studio but i need to know what to get and i want to get some stuff that will make it sound like it came out of a 32-track studio

I'm with Aussie on this one... Mics will NEVER get you laid. Neither will all those buttons. Now experience, money and patience. Those WILL get you laid.

Another usefull thing is a sense of asking direct and well-defined questionS instead of just one question covering it all. But you got that, right? :D

"Mics won't get you laid"

-- they get me very aroused though!!!!!

There's nothing like a little -10db pad after a hard day at the office.....

If you get 4 ADATs I can guarentee that everything you do will sound like it came from a 32 track studio.

:D

First you start off with alot of money, then you buy alot of equipment. After you get all of that you need help in reading all of the manuals and assembling all the equipment. Then some experience might be helpful, maybe read some more books on Audio Engineering. My recommendation would be The Musicians Guide to Home Recording by McIan and Wichman, its a good book though it covers alot of analog recorders. The experience will be gained by experimentation and chance. The quickest way I know is to buy a 32 track studio and hire people to make money for you.

Hope this helps, I can and others here I suppose could build you a parts list of what ya need.

Peace,
Dennis

The way it ussually happens: you do alot of research, spend A BIG lot of money, fiddle around with your equipement, and by the time you get how it works, you figure out that there's these other thingies that are better, or that you need to, and they gonna cost you even more.

Good tip: spend a BIG TIME reading, deciding what's best for you, why you need what, etc, and make sure that when you get your toys, you know exactly what you're getting and how it works. That'll be the cheapest way.

Thank you to every one

thanks to every one who gave me good advice and didnt say sometihng stupid

g-note,

Sorry for my warped sense of humour but your original question was so open-ended it was difficult to know where to start with an answer. So let's start here;

Do you have a preference for analogue, dedicated digital or computer based recording.
What do you envisage recording.
What type of budget do you have to play with.
What size will your studio be.

All of this and more needs to be answered by you before anyone can give any reasonable advice.

Peace........ChrisO
