New Bass Guitar

I tune in the most basic of ways...and I tune the bass using the same as the guitar.

Open strings right? I don't get your tone knob changed comment?

I use the EADG open & never had a problem. good luck
 
You will not break the neck. Yes e a d g is standard for bass. Didn't listen to the clip though.

Tone knob changes meant that I played each strong, set the tone to high treble and played again. That's why you hear thick thin tones in the clip.

Just make sure that when you're tuning up, you stop at E-A-D-G an octave below guitar tuning. Make sure you don't accidentally try to tune up to guitar pitch, or you'll break the strings long before you get there.

I tuned up from the factory strings. It is 1 octacve lower than my gits. Cool.

I have a Boss tuner that has a hi/lo switch for guitar/bass. Not all tuners have this switch and people just use the same tuner for both with decent results.:D
