This songs called "Let the Games Begin", the band is called Under the Gun.

I think this song is just starting to get to my head. Is this lacking as much as I think it is or am I losing it? one of those project where I can't wait for it to be over with!

thanks guys

Gave it a listen.

I have a headache and a sore throat now.

ahhh...stop buttons, love 'em.

My condolences, sir.

Those toms sound like you didn't close mic them. The snare sounds like it is lacking high end or something, alot of twang to it but also a pop noise to it but it's not crisp. The snare and kick drum seem to be much louder than the guitars, the guitars just seem far back. The singer comes through clear, well as far as these kind of vocals.

Those toms definately need alot of work, they just sound so hollow.

I feel for ya, richard....

I couldn't take more than 20 seconds

oh wow, those guitars are terrible. no body, just fuzz. if they were tracked better this would have been on par with all the other awful metalcore bands that i thought stopped making music in 2001.

They were close miced..the drumswe used were some crappy brand called SIMBA, they just sound hollow all around. Any suggestions on what to do?

The guitar heads were those line 6 digital thingers. treymonfauntre, what do you suggest to fix it.

As for the snare, the player is ridiculously inconsistant with where he hits on the drum, hence, the twang, and the pops at different points.

Since the drummer is inconsistant, you will probably have to use some heavy compression on the snare. The toms definately need a big low end boost, between 50hz and 100hz would probably add something to it, probably add some compression to them too.

For the guitars, try giving 3khz a good boost with a Q between 1 and 2... That should cut down on some of that fuzz and add some overall clarity to the guitars, and bring them out more.

Also, this really isn't metalcore... Metalcore has melodic hooks and such and clean singing, well sometimes has clean singing. Something like Trivium comes to mind...

You could also get drumagog and replace the hits.

I actually used sound replacer originally, but on some songs the kid plays fast snare rolls and fills and it sounded just horrible with the sample. So we went back to the original track. If anything I'll end up using SR on the toms.

I'll play with this a bit tonight and post the outsome. thanks guys

this is what I just did, I'm thinkin the guitars can come down a itsy bitsy bit. I dunno, the band says they like itl, but they say that with everything I send them. eh, any better?

EDIT: I just realized I posted a link to the wrong mix, I fixed it though.

Sound a lot better. Obviously not great but that is in no way your fault. I think you have it at the best it can be. But the snare is just a tad loud. I'd suggest bring it down a touch(not too much) :D

Not much low end on it at all. It doesn't do the chugga chugga's justice.

sorry broseph, but metal was coined as a term to define hardcore music (which was in essence super aggressive punk music) combined with metally guitars. it has nothing to do with numetal or clean singing. as a matter of fact, the majority of those image-conscious melodic bands were considered "fashioncore" or at the very best "melodic metalcore" a few years ago (though true 'metalcore' probably doesn't exist anymore, hell if i know because i got out of that shit when i was about 15)

also, if the band is dumb enough to think "under the gun" hasn't been used 10,000 times and that line 6 amps are sweet, i'm sure this is the best mix they will ever hear. you've done your best, sir. its listenable despite the fact that its bland as sin on their part.

personally i think the band is a winner in my eyes..... it is lacking in the guitars though...... straight-up nasty tone..... i somewhat like the snare but i think it needs tuned up a bit..... and the drummer is quite inconsistant
