EDIT: I just uninstalled the .42 drivers and installed the .27 set. With the buffer setting at 512 samples, everything was the same. But when I edged it up to 1536 samples, the popping and clicking FINALLY seemed to go away. I have a latency of 34 msecs at that setting (44.1). Might try the .36 driver set (only one I haven't tried yet) and see what happens there.

34 ms is fairly high latency. However, if you are not using Input Monitoring or recording "live" midi, it shouldn't have any impact on your work.

Good luck.

Oh, and btw, there is a newer set of drivers than the .42's. M-Audio has a .46 driver available which you can get here: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers&ID=

filename is: Delta_1007_web.exe

34ms is high, isn't it! I had purchased this card in the hope that I could move past the latency problems that I was having with my past solutions, and here I have a less-than-stellar number! I didn't want to complain about it yet--I thought I'd rejoice at getting the popping and clicking removed first--but the latency is larger than I had hoped for. No doubt the story is not over yet, so nothing is set in stone.

Thanks for all your help, eveyone.

dachay2tnr--I had originally tied the newest drivers, but they weren't good for me. I had to go back a few sets to find one that worked tolerably well. Thanks!

You might also want to take a look at turning off or decreasing your graphics acceleration...? Good luck - I'm curious to see how you end up fixing this and what level of latency you end up with, since I'm thinking about buying this card in the near future too. :)

Tried turning the graphics down some, no real effect. Still at 34ms.

.0036 driver set was not any better, I tried that too. Have now tried them all, and the .0027 seems to work the best. For now...

I have got the exact same problem (popping and distorted windows-sounds). My audiophile even quits giving any sound whenever it feels like it. People here thought it was my OS but I installed a genuine WINDOWS 98 SE and the exact same thing happened. I even got a new one from the shop and it still happens. Something strange going on with this audiophile...

I just installed the new driver 46 a few days ago and now have crackles.

ok, this is very frustrating for you I am sure.

There have been a lot of suggestions about your buffers etc

maybe you need to check that in each panel you can. The soundcard control panel, and the program. Also the control panel for the driver which is often seperate. You know which driver control panel to use (examples include ASIO, direct X, etc) by which one you have chosen to route the program through in the options/preferences tab of the program you're using (sonar, right?).

You are gonna have to check and see if you card is compatable with your soundcard. It may very well NOT be. IN THAT CASE, you would have to get a new card, or get a new software to use.
I can't not mention that you should have all the updates from windows, and tune it for making music. What OS are you using? what antivirus, what spyware checker?, what else should I mention?

make sure you tried all this stuff
all of it, and then get back to us here :D

If you have a sub-standard video card such as a GeForce2 that may be part of the problem. ATI video cards seem to be more compatible with the Audiophile. [at least on my system] I don't get pops and crackles in Sonar and my latency is 4ms with WDM drivers.
