Hey, I have a Delta 44, but it's not enough channels anymore, and even thouhg it's treated me well, I don't feel like I'd want to go with the 1010. Any suggestions? I'd rather hear peoples actual experiences with the stuff, if they own it. Thanks boys!

Wish I could help, I am in the same position. I have been eying a couple units. I have been seriously looking at buying a used adat machine for a couple hundred bucks and running that into my layla 24/96 via optical input/adat and gaining another 8 channels super cheap.

It's just a thought. it's very cheap if you have the ability. A studio I use that used to use two adats does that using a motu interface and comes out with 24 channels digital with only the on motu interface. The layla only offers me an aditional 8 I believe but hey. 200 or 300 or 8 channels. What the hell.

Just so you know I am very happy with my Echo layla 24/96 but now days I have been looking at the presounus firestudio. I personaly don't have enough expieriance with fire wire to know if it's as fast as the pci interface of the layla. But the presonus has built in pre-amps and the layla does not.

Not alot of help I know.

Thanks man. I was considering (still am) a fire wire but they're so god damn expensive and i have no experience using them. I know a guy who used to use 2 16 channel adats, and i might be able to get him to lend them/sell them cheap to me, but I have absolutely no experience with them either. :o So I'm not really sure, there aren't a lot of places where i can test stuff out, and the shits not cheap. We'll see where it goes, I guess..

You could also get another delta 44 and then have 8 inputs and outputs....Is that enough??

:)

I have owned the 1010 and I upgraded to an RME Multiface. The Multiface is very stable and reliable compared to the 1010. The sound quality is much better as well. The multiface also has a headphone monitor on the front so you don't have to use up your outputs for monitoring. I recall having little cliche problems with the 1010.

I have the layla 24/96 too, and have been really happy with it for the most part (especially considering how cheap they can be used these days). And the converters in it are pretty decent for the price. Anyway, just wondering if you had considered another one for more inputs (simliar I guess to the original posting with multiple delta's)? They are made to work with additional cards/boxes on the same system.

My thoughts are that most "interfaces" of the $200-$600 range with pres or not are going to have similiar architecture and converter quality, and that if a person really wants to upgrade int hat department, it is to go to dedicated converters from RME or someone. Benefits of the whole batch of firewire interfaces seems to be portability- etiehr being able to plug into laptops or move computers.
I'm no where near capping out my imputs yet, but gear-wise, i am looking at better pre's rather than an interface with medium grade pres as a benefit.

It's not necessarily the inputs that need the upgrade, but also the quality I'd like to see an upgrade in.
