Hi everyone,

I am very new at this whole recording at home thing. Me and a buddy are trying to get set up with these basic things. I need some suggestions as to how to set them up thru a mixer to a computer, and then what software to use after that. We will be recording guitar, bass, vocals, and maybe a drum track. Nothing serious. We will need a mixer, 2 mics, some cords, software ect. Any hel at all would be huge!!!

Thanks,

Ryan

You may need to narrow your question down - what you're asking is very, very broad.

For mic's a Shure SM58 and a low cost condenser (there are many to choose from). The mixer depends on the software. If you choose software that has internal mixing ability and the ability to burn CD's you may not need a hardware mixer.

When you mention drum tracks - does that mean accoustic drums (then you likely will need a mixer - and maybe more than 2 mics) or a drum machine (which may not need a mixer).

I would suggest you spend time on this site reading. Also get your hands on some magazines like Recording, Home Recording, EQ, etc. - that will help you understand the dozens of options that are out that (for literally every step of the signal chain).

Then you can ask more direct and specific questions.
