well, see i use 2 just rap for fun and play around with it. But now I want to get serious about it. See ive tried recording before from my comp. but i have a ty computer mic. so it never works out. I got a good program i use which is cool edit pro. BUt when i tried to get a better mic it didnt work out cuz it couldnt connect 2 the soundcard. But the person said if u wanted 2 use it u had 2 buy like a mixer or someting i dunno. But if someone could help me figure out wat2 get 2 start recording my raps from my comp that would help.oh yea my friend said that 8-tracks or 4-tracks r an option and that the computer was is confusing, but i nothing bout it.So if someone could help me out with both questions id really appreciate that. Thanks.

rap with cooledit pro is easy. you'll need to pick up a mixer somewhere, basically just for a preamp for the mic (brings the mic level, which is very low, up to line level inputs for your soundcard). you can find basic mixers at pawn shops and whatnot.

once you've got audio coming into the PC, you'll need to arm a recording track in CoolEdit and set your input level (i think this is in the Settings menu). you might want to find some loops to rap over, as acapella rap has only found popularity with big acts such as Jay-Z, for some reason :D

as for using CoolEdit, just start fuckin around. i started eight years ago and by now i'm somewhat decent (as decent as the program allows, anyway). you can find a lot of answers in the CoolEdit forum on this very board. the main thing is a mixer, a good mic, and some heaphones so you don't get speaker bleed on your vocal tracks. that's the most basic starting info i can provide you with, anything more is probably too specific. get a good recording space a good distance away from the actual PC, as they can be noisy.

Thanks I really apreciate the help mayne. Could u recomemd some mics, mixerx, ect, for me cuz im sorta clueless wats good and not u know. Thanks.

Excuse my ignorance Mizta, but who is in the pic?

Oh, and a Shure SM 58 is a good mic for vocals whilst Yamaha do an excellent range of reasonably priced mixers.

Its lil wyte and Juicy J and DJ Paul of three six mafia(666 mafia). Oh yeah which type of mixer should i go for cuz wen i looked it up they gave me these 3 types power, analog, or digital. WHich one should i choose?? thanks.

I would go with the analog.

ok thanks i appreciate the help. I got 1 last question tho, how does the mixer connect to your PC?

I dont know what kind of sound card you have so im guessing its stock, That would be some good info to know, you have to pick out a mixer, then we can answer the cable question.

lol i sorta understood it.. So i'll have to buy something so it can connect in the Mixer and into the PC? If im right could u tell me wat i need 2 get for that. Thnaks for everything so far really appreciate it,

The eight post down tells you exactly what you need, the 1/4" go into the main outs on the mixer the RCA's plug into the RCA's of the 1/8" adapter and the 1/8" end goes to the line in on your soundcard.

Peace
