Folks:

Just a post to recognize and offer thanks to the list admin for heeding my request to revise the Analog Only list description. You may not have noticed the recent change. It used to pertain to "Discussions of problems relating to.. (analog stuff)". I figured since using analog gear is way more fun and satisfying than digital for many of us, the forum should have a description that is less of a downer, so I just sent a brief message to the webmaster to that effect, essentially asking to take out the part about "problems pertaining to".

The new description "Discuss the joys and all other sticky issues pertaining to recording on analog mediums (cassette, tape, wire, vinyl, wax cylinders :-)" was not actually my suggestion, but I appreciate that the administrator took my suggestion to heart and put in a more upbeat, whimsical title for the forum.

Cheers,

Otto

On balance, there should be a "sticky issues with digital" forum for all the "why does my computer keep freezing up when I arm tracks?" threads hehe :D

Nice new descrip, I like it! (and to be fair, didn't we have a wax cylinder discussion not that long ago?)

You're right, didn't notice the new description but this is a welcome change. Thanks Otto (and of course admin)! :)

I get "sticky shed" when I try to peel off the stickers FreeGeek puts on the front of computers....

Great initiative!

I'm battling on the swedish recording forums, trying to explain to younger (and older) people that analog recording doesn't have to equal expensive problems. Sadly, I think it's an opinion that has been planted by bitter people who can't the appreciate the sound qualities+more, and who can't look at digital recording from a bit more critical point of view. There are definitely a lot of downsides with digital recording as well.

And of course, one way doesn't have to be better than the other. There's room for both approaches.
