I usually walk through the local music shop, it's a music-go-round where they mostly deal with used instruments. It's a pretty cool shop. Anyway, they had a used polytone mini-brute II in there for $299. This is a standard little Jazz amp, and it is nice. Real warm, clean, and mellow. I traded an old Takamine ac/elec for an even trade. I play mostly acoustic, so I don't know much about electric tone, but I know I like this amp. I highly recommend it for some of you who are looking for alternatives in the good cheap amp range.

The question, I can't find a website yet for Polytone and I didn't get a manual. I don't quite understand the controls for the clean channel vs the overdrive. Anybody got a link to some info, or does anybody own one of these that can help me out?

thanks,
Pete

Eyes, no I got it used so it didn't come with anything. I had found that dayton music site already, but thanks for the link to the music parts store, they may have what I need. I've been playing around with the nobs and I think I can figure everything out, but it's a little cryptic.

Thanks for the help

Pete

We had some Polytones at school.

The overdrive tone is really bad - you probably wouldn't want to use it.

The 'clean' however, is great for that really classic jazz sound.

The thumbnail version of how to set it up is to put the master on about 8, and then use the 'preamp' gain to adjust your playing volume.
You may want to take the guitar volume down a couple of notches to give you a more bassy sound.
