new acoustic/electric pickup?

Hey all,
i have an acoustic electric yamaha, and im thinking about buying a new pickup for it. what im wondering is, how much of a difference can it make (looking to spend 100$ or less) and if i do is that somethingi can put in myself or would it be a good idea to have someone else do it? thanks.
 
A good under saddle pickup will make a HUGE difference. An active pickup may reguire some cutting (to mount the control/battery box) and drilling to install the pickup. If these kind of modifications are needed you should have it done by a good repair person unless you are real handy with tools. Seymore Duncan makes a good active undersaddle pickup for $95-$110 which should serve you well. Belcat makes a pretty good one for around $60-$65 if you want to save a few dollars. While you are at it, this would be a good time to replace the stock saddle with a bone one, this will probably cost another $15-$20.
