I am updating my bed-room studio and want to squeeze some more quality out of my recordings. currently i have a condenser mic (m-audo Nova) and a small Behringer mixer which i connect the mic to then from there to my PC. I mainly record rap vocals and want to see if i can take my mixes to the next level. I was thinking about adding a compressor to my setup. I was looking a the M-audio Tampa pre-amp/compressor and the Behringer T1952 Tube Composer. There is a major price gap between the two and would just like to know if anyone has any experience with any one of these compressors? If you guys know of any other compressors that fall bellow $300 i'm all ears :)

do u need an external compressor? why not use a software one?

If you want more quality out of your recordings then stay away from that Behringer compressor. The suggestions by Big Kenny are good, or your idea of the Tampa. Another possibility is the ART Pro Channel.

First upgrade your preamp to something that's good enough for listening. Then look for a compressor(anything except Behringer)...

Humbucker music for the RNC, $175, free shipping, and two free cables. Plus, you'll love the product (unless your a bass player)

This one is for $349+14 shipping with a free MXL V67G or some nice AKG phones:

Or the ART PRO Channel is $270 from fullcompass you have to call to get that price. http://www.fullcompass.com/product/275667.html

The M-Audio Tampa would probably be a nice choice as well, with the digital out and all, but its $100~ more then the pro channel. May even be worth the extra money.

Both of which will be a huge step up from your behringer mixer.
