I'm checking out some old Neumanns at the Mic Shop in Costa Mesa, CA today and the engineer was telling me about the various colors on the Neumann logos and how they indicate the internal electoronics. Seems Red indicates Solid State, Purple indicates FET and Black indicates tube technology.
I know what FET stands for but how would the Red labels, solid state, differ from the Purple the FET? What does the Red label use instead of FETs? This would be the TLM 130 and the 170.
Any one know?
Got to hold a U47 in my hot little hands which I am going to rent next week. What a beast.
