how would this be sturdy? it's completely made out of wood resting on wood piers.
WHAT is completely made out of wood? I assume a floor, since skids and piers are not usually referred to in ceiling or roof construction. But we can't read minds.
If you can explain exactly what it is you are building. I AM a builder, and understand perfectly what a joist, skid, pier, rafter, stud, joint, connection, nailing, screwing, bolting and any other normal construction term means. What I don't know, is HOW and WHAT you are building as a SYSTEM. When you refer to a beam, what beam, and where? When you say you are nailing a joist to a "skid", and you are asking if you should nail the joist to the skid, and then refer to a beam, you loose me. Usually a "skid" is resting on a concrete slab, with joists or beams nailed to it. Then joists are USUALLY placed on edge perpendicular to the beam, and a rim joist is naied at the ends. Its obviious that you are planning on floating a floor, or you wouldn't be nailing a joist to a skid. What I don't understand is where the beam comes into play. What is all this assembly goint to rest on? And what is the first thing touching it. And the next thing? Etc.
In essense, what are you trying to isolate from what? If you want an answer that truely helps you, you need to provide more info.
