Hello All,

This is my first post. I can't believe how lucky I am to have found such a great source of knowledge. I am a musician of 25 years who has jumped into what this site calls the 'desktop recording revolution'. I have played for years, but am really just learning when it comes to mixing/engineering....

I have included a track that was recorded in my home studio. This was recorded on a one take deal with a seven piece band. Any thoughts/opinions/help on the mix is what I am hoping for.

Thanks to all in advance,

Paul j. Abel

Recorded with the following equipment:
2.5 gigahertz amd
2 – delta 1010LT’s
Event 20/20 monitors
Behringer 2200 mic pres (cheap and functional…)

Mics used:
At813r
Behringer B2
Sm57
Sm58
PVM 480
AT Drum mic set
Just bought a Beta 52. Couldn't help myself. After recording this I realized I needed a better bass drum sound.

Hey Paul,
Damn!!! Sounds good for live in one take!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this track. Eveyone else really needs to download and enjoy it.

As far as the mix goes I wouldn't really touch anything other than the organ. It needs to be just a bit louder (And there are a couple of parts where the song really is begging for a climatic screaming high-speed-overdriven-leslie sound (especially the second breakdown, right before the percussion-only breakdown)). But other than that, I really have nothing else to say other than "Good Job". Cool Website :) I can't seem to get the Media section though, or the Calendar. Where are you all from??? Quite the songlist too

Atterion,
Thank you for the praise! I am really geeked about learning how to use my equipment and I have spent a good deal of time on the mix for this tune. As far as the playing, we know there are errors, but our goal was to get as many tunes down as possible because we figured the demo will have 10-40 seconds of each tune. Every one in the band has played music for quite some time it was a matter of going in and doing the tunes. I agree about the Keys on this one. I haven't quite found the organ sound I'm looking for yet. When I recorded, I recorded both the audio and the midi from the keyboard so I could go back and change the sound if I didn't think the audio fit. I like the idea of getting to climax before the break. I will give it a try.

There is no media on our web site yet. Eventually cuts from all 25 songs we did on this demo will be there as well as some video that was taken of us last summer. The calendar page is not very clearly explained. I will have to fix that. Just click on a month and it shows where we're playing and on which days.

We are located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Again, thanks for taking the time to listen and give suggestions.

Paul

Aaahhh, Grand Rapids. Many light years from my home town. I guess I won't be coming to see you live anytime soon. Sorry. But yes, keep up the good work.
