I think it sounds pretty raw and aggressive! I like it that way.. not every mix/production has to be crystal clear to perfection!
Gonzo.. I dig it how it is! Kickass job!!

COOL hugo,
glad you dig it.

it is supposed to be raw and aggressive...
not super polished,
that's not the sound this group was looking for.

it's hard to explain this one song, relative to the vibe of the entire album,
it's kind of like trying to explain a conversation by only referencing one sentence out of a 10 minute conversation.

but, it's cool, each little section has it's own personality, and it really works from beginning to end.

there are lots of melodies, motifs, repeating characters and spirits floating throughout,
and it's not for the easily bored.

appreciate the comments.

Agree with Greg.

Having said that. I think as a semi-improv semi-composition it's rather cool, although some of the more traditional lead guitar work is a bit boring, to my ears and brains at least. I like the drum work a lot, and both the riffs and dynamics are quite nice. The sound and mix though, could do with more definition, indeed everything sounds a bit dull and centered. Almost like it's recorded with one (good) mic.

thanks for listening mystic....

i guess the guys wanted a more raw approach,
as far as the mix goes,
and i'm cool with that.

the solo guitar stuff,
was intentionally voiced and played to counterbalance the aggressive nature of the rhythm tracks.

it was quite the fun project to be involved with,
took quite a bit of time to put it all together.

the entire piece is just at about 60 minutes.

I think the song has a lot of potential.. As far as mix, it may be intentional, but I just don't feel the power it could have. With the rhythm guitar straight and center it loses some of the energy, in my opinion at least. Everything can be heard clearly and the tones of all the instruments sound good.

thank you for listening and commenting....

seeing as to how this is a finished project, i don't think the mix will be re-visited...
and isn't the way i would have mixed it,
but i didn't write any of this material,
i was just glad to be a part of it.

i do a lot of collaborations, this was just one.

there are 13 songs in all from this project,
each one is pretty different.

the mixes are different too....
maybe a post of a completely different tune from the project,
would put it more into perspective.

One of the dangers of critiquing something as an arrangement/composition is that one is critiquing someone else's personal taste.

....or, if you prefer....mixing something is more objective and writing something is more subjective....relatively.

I offered both in my comments. Writing, especially in a creative context, is purely subjective. For me it's great to hear comments because after listening to something a half a million times...both the mix and the composition sort of become their own truth. It's good for me to hear when my truth isn't everyone else's truth.

...and everyone wants accolades....but not everyone is willing to admit it. :)

"False praise"? Doesn't that more or less describe 90% of the music industry...and therefore reflect something basic about us all?

i'll post some other sections of the album,
just for balance.

i'll pick something mellow(er) next....
