Fellas,

I'm going to give digital recording a try. A few years back I purchased a dedicated laptop with cool edit pro 2.1 as well as Sonar Producer 4 but never used it. I think I'm ready to make the plunge. With that said...

What I want to do is record the tracks thru my 24x8x2 analog board into the laptop for 24 track recording. What firewire gear do I need to do this?

Secondly...

I want to mix/master out of the laptop back thru my 24x8x2 board using my aphex/dbx/urei effects and send it to my Scully 280b mastering deck as I've always done. Is there any additional gear I need to go from the laptop back to the analog board?

I hope this doesn't turn in to a digital vs analog debate...I just want to know what equipment I need to accomplish the type of recording that I want to do. Thanks much in advance!

DY

Thank you...

So noone makes a 24 channel (or a 16 channel) firewire box yet...*sigh*. 8 or 12 channel firewire box isn't going to work as I want independent tracks for everything I record (8 drum channels, 6 guitar channels, 4 vocal channels, 1 bass channel, 1 keyboard channel) to go back thru my console/outboard gear then to my 1/2" tape deck for tape compression (I only have 1 fire wire port).

Apparently, 24 channel firewire technology isn't here yet.

Anyway - thanks for the reply,

DY
