greetings folks,

i recently bought a vsr 880 and am having a devil of a time.

i was hoping to use it as a modular 8 track and do the old

split monitoring like i used to do with the old reel to reel.

i can record and play back through the mackie mixer but

am not able to mix down in the same way as with the tsr 8.

is it possible or do i have to get a digital mixer as well?

i'd be ever so grateful to get some info from you seasoned

digital guys who have vsr experience.

many thanks in advance for replies,
mo

I have one hooked up to a mackie 1402vlzpro. I don't know exactly what your trying to do but I do know people recommend using the Roland VM3100 pro digital mixer thru the rbus connector to control funtions in the vsr. For me, I do mostly midi with a few live tracks and they say the Roland mixer does have a midi template but I just can't see spending the $$ for it now. I like using the mackie for the XDR preamps.

Right now I use the inserts as direct outs to the vsr inputs. I plug in to the first click only and use the trim knob to control level to the vsr. I return from the vsr to the stereo channels of my mixer. I actually use one of the aux's as a input to get a full eight tracks in and out of it.

Hope this helps.
