Hello everybody,

I didn't know where to turn so I turned to this forum and you guys for help regarding a mixing session I'm part of.

The problem is that we don't seem to find any good sound for the band (I'm not the sound engineer in this case) and we've run out of ideas and time.

I've attached two drowbox files below where you could listen to som mixdowns. Just click on the link.

DROPBOX - For easier downlload:

Just some info; The guitar is quad, where 2 Engl is placed 100 Left and Right and then a Peavy Bandit it placed 80, Left and right (the Peavy is lower in dB than the Engl). The bass is inline with a Sansamp.

I would really appreciate some help in this matter. What do you think is the major problems regaring the sound of this mix?

Many thanks in advance.

/Jimmy

Sorry, I realaized I've attached the links wrong. I've attached Dropbox links instead. Much easier to download from.

What are people not happy with in the mix specifically? It really doesn't sound completely off to me. In fact, I like that you can hear a lot of the instrumentation. You may just need to work on the dynamics of the song itself, emphasizing certain parts a little bit more through the use of volume.

I remember reading an interview with Trent Reznor a while back where they were having a problem with a song, and they ended up dropping the drum volume in the chorus, and they said that alone helped tremendously.

Generally the band isn't happy with the basic sound of the guitars, bass and drums and how they work with each other. They want more "punch" and "thickness", but we don’t seem to get that. Not to their approval. I don’t know if we should scoop the guitars more or what we should do.

Sounds like very good idea to work more with the dynamics. Many thanks for the tip.. :)
