I have a apple G4 and a firepod . I need to update my computer to MacOS X 10.3.5(or later) and you need 800mhz and I only 400mhz and I also need a Dual 1 GHZ and with 512MB or more.. What should I do to upgrade my computer? If its even possible. Which things should I purchase ?

you can get pci slot processer up-grades.......

but in truth, i think you'd be better off saving up for/financeing a new mac
or hell, even a used one. yours sounds pritty old.

Huh? It's a G4, so no you can't upgrade the CPU with a PCI card. The last time anybody built such a card, it was for the PowerMac 7200. And there's no reason to upgrade the CPU anyway, at least not immediately.

Short answer: buy Mac OS X (10.4) and install it. You might still find yourself needing to bump up the hard drive and/or RAM, of course.

I'm not convinced you need an 800 MHz CPU. I used to do 8 channel PCI card audio recording on a 400 MHz machine. The software I used sucked and had occasional "disk too slow" failures (mainly because I was trying to use a firewire hard drive as my audio drive... don't do that...), but otherwise, that system should be just fine.

i use a external firewire hard drive for audio, not an expensive one, and i get 16 in at the same time, with 8 or so on playback.

my comp is a single 933, and i wish i had a bit more.

In order to help you, I'm going to need more information.

What kind of G4 do you have currently? At 400mhz, it could be the PCI Graphics, AGP Graphics, or Gigabit Ethernet. I have the AGP. They different processors, and the AGP/Gigabit is much easier to upgrade.

If you have PCI Graphics, here are some processor upgrades:

If you have AGP Graphics:

Gigabit Ethernet: (Very similar to the AGP Graphics. Some processor upgrades are the same)

Also, how much RAM do you have currently? It woudl probably be PC100/PC133. You can get up to about 2 gigs, but I would have at least 512MB.

You probably can get away with a Firepod at 400mhz. I got away with a Delta 1010LT with a 350mhz processor.
