I trigger samples while drumming. I use a pc gamepad and a computer.
1. Attach a PC USB 12-button 2-analog gamepad to the snare. I used velcro and sponge dishpads.
2. Get and install a program called "Joystick Keyboard", which has one purpose: to convert inputs from the gamepad into user-defined keypresses.
3. Get and install any program that can play a sound (immediately) when the hotkey is pressed. I use Macro ToolWorks. (Everyone who uses a computer should use a macro program.)
That's the basics. I went on to write a macro that changes the 'set' of sounds if I press Button-6. I can alter the pitch and tempo of sounds using one of the analog sticks. I can start recording with one button. Also, i have a computer monitor hanging over my drum set and i can cue through drum patterns when i practice, etc x1000 ...there are tons of things you can do with a gamepad, "Joystick Keyboard", and macro Toolworks. btw, i can play several sounds at the same time.
Hope this helps somebody.
