Need to record vocals to a song...

Hello, I'm new here, just left my old band looking to just do some freelance recording and side project work online. I've recorded, but I was never the person pressing the buttons, lol, I just took instruction. Anyway, I've got an mp3 of everything except vocals. I've looked into a lot of the options for self-recording (eventually I'd like to start programming and recording instruments and creating my own songs) but for the time being all I need is something to record a seperate vocal track at decent quality, I don't need to mix anything, don't need to record any other instruments, I only need to record vocals. I already have a decent mic, so my question is what's a cost-efficient way for me to contribute vocals through my computer?

I don't know if it would work for you the way you want it but you might check out Sony SoundForge 8. Only app that I've run across that allows me to overdub vocals on top of music (or whatever).

Actually I'm not looking to overdub the vocals, I need them on a seperate track (its going to be mixed elsewhere after that).

Any multitrack software should allow you to do this. There are freebies, like Krystal Audio Engine and Audacity. Other programs like N-Track and Cubase SE can be had for less than $100.

You'll need a preamp. The cheapest preamp that I think sounds decent for vocals is the Studio Projects VTB-1 ($99). They go up considerably in price from there.

Then you'll need a decent soundcard for your computer. If you're only doing vocals, you could get by with something like the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 ($100). If you think you might like to record more than one thing at a time in the future, look for a card with more inputs. The Delta 44 card has 4 inputs and is less than $150.
