Im recording this guy again in a week and I am desperately trying to improve my recording quality! Right now I'm rockin a Shure KSM27 condenser mic into a Presonus FP10 firewire interface. Nothing else external. Im thinking about getting an external compresser? Heres what im using in logic 9 right now (my DAW). The digital compresser has a ratio of 8:1 limiter threshold at 0db, attack at 50ms and release at 5ms. I also have a de esser and a limiter in the bus as well with the EQ boosts heavily in the 1k-20k range.

here is the current mix:

Please let me know how I can improve the quality!

It's kind of hard to tell on YouTube, you should put this up on soundclick or something that streams at high quality.

From what I can tell, the vocals don't sit very well in the mix. I assume the effect info you listed is on the vocal track?
From what you have there, it seems like you need to set your threshold. Right now, unless everything you recorded was clipping, the compressor isn't doing anything. I would start closer to a 4:1 ratio and -14db threshold(this number totally depends on your recording levels and what it sounds like, don't just put it at -12 and say, ok done. Listen to find the right threshold)
Also, I would set the release higher, at like 300ms
For EQ, I would roll off some of the low-end also maybe starting around 250hz, but again, listen and see what works. And maybe bring some of that high-shelf down a bit
I don't think you need an external compressor, sounds like you need to play around more with the compressor you got and learn how to use it well.
Not a bad start, keep it up

YES! Thats what Ive been trying to say! It doesnt sit right in the mix! So I set the compressor down to 2:1 (is that too extreme?) limiter thresh at -10db and compressor thresh at -35db. turned the release up like you suggested. I still have another limiter and desser on the track. I appreciate the feedback SOOO much! I am just not familiar with mixing a rap track and getting it to fit with the beat!
i put the new mix on soundclick like you suggested: SoundClick artist: yung mowen - page with MP3 music downloads
