Need Studio Monitor Opinion

I do hip hop, rap, r&b beats. I got a $300 budget. I'm confused on which studio monitors to get. It's now basically a toss up between the Event Tr5 or the M-Audio Bx5. Not sure which ones between the 2 I should get. Then I was browsin around the net and I came across these New Alesis Monitors. Click here to check out the New Alesis Monitors. They ain't at the Guitar Center near my house yet so I can't check em out. So I'm thinkin of waitin. I need yall opinions on these 3. Which ones do u think I should get and why? If there are any other suggestions, let me kno. Thanks for yall help.
 
have you checked out the Wharfedale Diamond Pro 8.2A's yet? They are pretty sweet. I have pair that I use in my studio and I record everything from metal to Hip Hop and industrial. I've also hooked to directly up to my MV 8000 and MPC and they sound sweet. They give you an accurate sounding mix, no hyped highs or lows. Deepwater on this board can hook you up with a pair for around what you are willing to spend.
 
I have the Event Tr-5's and I like them a lot. They're very flat, response wise, with good stereo imaging. They don't, however, have much below around 80 hz or so. I would say that you should seriously think about saving another few hundred bucks and getting something with at least an 8" woofer. Either that, or get a professional subwoofer and be very careful about setting the crossover frequency correctly. In my world of punk and indie rock, deep bass isn't all that crucial, but if your listeners are going to be hearing your work on systems with subs, you'd be best off monitoring on a system with lots of accurate low end.

I recently bought M-Audio BX5's. They are my first monitors; they sounded better than KRK's in the same price range at the store. I've since read in Electronic Musician magazine (this month's edition; might be worth checking out) that Event monitors are much more appropriate (flat) then M-Audio monitors and I've always heard good things about Event for the price. Assuming EM is correct the Events may be the better choice.
 
And you can read the recent monitor shoot-out team reviews in Future Music, which rated the BX5s as a good choice for accurate response. The Event 5s also scored highly. The overall lower-cost winners, though, were the Yamaha 3s and 5s.

If you don't have a subwoofer for the type of music you are doing. None of the above will be satisfactory.
 
I'd have to agree with Middle. I just added a sub to my BX5s, and my low-end guessing is over. If you decide to buy such a small monitor, then you might do well to consider models that have a low-freq cut (say, at 80 or 100Hz) for smoother integration with a sub. The BX5s do, which was one big reason I chose them.
