I am just new here so I will first say Hello to everyone :)

I am considering selling my Protools Digi001 with 5.3.1 for xp in favor of the Tascam FW1804 that comes with Cubase LE. It would give me 2 more xlr inputs and the ability to record at 24/96 instead of 24/48 that I am limited to right now. Has anyone had any experience with the Tascam FW1804 and is this a good move?

Also I am thinking about the Digitech GNX4 as the midi drum section would be really handy, and it is kind of everything a person could need if you are just solo recording.

I'm a certified 'protools' hater --- not that any software is inherently evil, just that I've never heard anything that I really liked that I knew was recorded on 'protools'. It's also overpriced and under-spec'd but a whole bunch of foolish people who cruise ebay will pay top dollar for it...

I don't own an 1804, but the software that came with my Tascam US-122 was all but useless. The recording application was not Cubase LE but rather Cubasis which didn't run VST fx much less VSTi's. But the unit itself is built like a brick and has been trouble free for the year I've owned it. The good thing about getting the Tascam unit is you won't be tied to a single recording software package like (ick) 'protools'. You could look around at Cakewalk, Tracktion, N-Tracks to name just a few.

As far as the Digitech unit goes, get a good listen to it and make sure that it fits the bill -- those things have advanced so much in the last few years that it's almost impossible to keep on top of them, but Digitech makes a good product.

And welcome to the board.

My main reason for getting the Digi001 was the combination of software and Hardware. There were no cheaper options at the time to get up to 18 inputs into the pc. Right now I am just looking at the options of upgrading since I can still get enough for my Digi001 on Ebay to purchase the Tascam 1804 and be able to use laptops to record if I want to.

Exactly what I was saying. The sooner you punt that PT, the more you stand to get for it...
