This is a spanish song that we recorded and I would like some comments on what I could do to improve it. I used the Yamaha AW16g recorder and I did the final mix with Sonar 4 and mastering with Izotope Ozone 3 plug in. Thanks for giving an ear.

This link is not working.

too many effects, kinda makes the whole thing cheesy, or maybe just a little demented. makes me see a fella named Juan in a leisure suit with a gold tooth leading a spanish band at a garage party.

The song is good...

Travis is to be apologized for, except the part about too much fx on the vocals, he may be right about one thing today...

The rest sounds pretty good, maybe some disonance between the vocals and guitar during the minor third walk-down.

I do apologize. I have been on a rampage today. My sense of humor got out of hand. Sorry.

Har! No hay problemo, compa.

hmm .. too much.. hall plate or .. whaetver on the vocals for my taste ... i'm thirsty.. not THAT much but a bit too much effect on the instrument in the beginning  .. keyboard? guitar? hehe i sound all amateur.. ;) but hey.. nowadays you can do whatever in a keyboard right? .. noob outs.. later :D

Its kind of hard to mix that music with only some cheap computer speakers and a pair of headphones. On the vocal, I'm using the delay efx and the guitar has no effects at all. The drums have a reverb on it, because it sounded very dry and with the effects on them, they seem to come out better. I'm also using the Izotope Ozone 3 plugin for my mastering. When you said "maybe some disonance between the vocals and guitar during the minor third walk-down.", what do you mean? I'm still learning some terms of recording, but I don't understand what you have meant by that. Just the other day, I sat down with my brother who helped me record this song and we thought we got a good sound on it, but I wasn't too sure of the quality. I'm in the process of trying to buy some good monitors to hear my music better, but for now that's what I had to come by with on equipment and how my music is sounding.

dissonance

a mingling of discordant sounds; especially : a clashing or unresolved musical interval or chord.

Not a recording term, but a musical one.

Your song is in the key of C. Several times the chord goes up to E minor to E flat minor to D minor (a minor third walkdown)

But while the guitar is playing the E flat minor chord, the vocalist is singing a straight E note (during deje yo de padecer). Very good job overall. Sounds like a Christian Augustin Lara. ;)

I think the vocals have a bit too much reverb, or too much of whatever effect you have on them - they sound way too processed.
