Need Some Helpful Ears on This Mix

I've got a demo of groove agent and battery actually, and i'm trying to use them with cubase SX2 or cubase VST 24. I don't really understand how they work I guess, because I was assuming I could take the drums I edited via a track in cubase and route the sound out of one of those plugins, making them play the pattern I wrote down. Is that possible? I'd love to do it for the above tune, but I'm quite lost.

You should be able to route a MIDI track to Groove Agent and get it to play the track.

BTW, that's not really the purpose of having Groove Agent, but if you like the sound of it's drums, what the hell...

In SONAR I simply set the output of the MIDI track to "Steinberg Groove Agent" and then set the output of the track hosting Groove Agent to my sound card.

Hey I got battery to work and I kind of like it except for the latency. Otherwise I can work with it.

I did yet another mix using batter for drums and I rather like it. The only problem is that when I threw it into the mix, it appears that the snare seems really really far back. I think this might be because of the amount of mid EQ that I applied to the sound. I might want to pull back on that and let the snare just sit in the mix. By itself, you hear no reverb really at all. but for some reason it seems far back, near the back of the room, perhaps, in the mix. Makes the whole set feel far back. Not quiet, just far back. I'd rather have a close up sound.

To be honest i'm pretty new at this myself so i don't have much in the way of technical advice. From a listeners perspective though, i really like the song - vocals are great and the tune is catchy.

In my opinion the guitar and bass doesn't sound as strong as it could, but this could be a result of the POD limitations and so forth. I think that micing an amp could give you a more raw sound which would help, but you seem against that.

Can i ask what equipment you use currently? By the sounds of it you've done very well with what you have.

Just had a listen to both tunes here.
First thing is it's a good song!! and the vocal line is really nice.
I think you need to bring in a new set of ears (someone else) to help you mix.
If you listen to U2 what difference do you hear?
You need to make space for the bass in digital, the whole track seems overly bass lite.
and this is leaving you with limmited room for the song to develop.

Do an A B test, I know it's hard as I do it myself, but it's the best way to learn.
A your tune
B U2 or some other song in this vain

Write down what you think the difference is.

The song is more important than the mix at this stage.

Yeah, bass has always been an issue for me so I'm not really sure how to pull that off. I finally got Battery to work but the natural reverb on everything feels... too much perhaps. I dunno, the drums don't feel right in front of me. Regardless yes, the bass is a pain in my arse! Any suggestions?

What I use - Cubase to program drums, play them out through Battery. Line 6 POD XT for guitar and vocals believe it or not and bass. I record into Cool Edit Pro, and I master in Wavelab. I'm rather new to using the last thing on that list - I think i'm getting better at mixing, but mastering is a little more complicated.

Nonetheless, thank you for the comments. You're right in that it's definitely the low end i have trouble with. I think once I definitively figure that out i'll be on my way.
