My problem is two parts...

1) I purchased the Cakewalk Home Studio 2004. I also purchased the US-122 external USB sound card. I am unable to get any output to my home computer speakers. The only output option it is giving me is the US-122. I tried hooking my home speakers up to the Us-122 but they did not fit. I am very new to all of this obviously... but I need to know how to get the output to the home speakers or is that mundane now that I have the new sound card?

2) I realized that the sound card I purchased- the Tascam Frontier Us-122 is not on the list of recommended sound cards on the Cakewalk site. Should I take this back and get something else? If so, what else? I am really only interested in laying down guitar and vocals. Probably no MIDI at least not anytime soon.

Thank You very very much!

A M-Audio Audiophile 2496 would be a good change for you.

I don't know what you mean by "home speakers."

If you are referring to speakers from a home stereo system, I assume you realize that you need "powered" speakers (i.e., speakers with built in amplifiers). If you are not using powered speakers, then you need to connect into your system's amplifier and not directly into the speakers.

Let me try and clear up my question about the output. The sound card is connected to a USB port on my home computer. I would like to get the playback sound or output to come out of my home computer speakers. Is that possible? I have two small speakers and a sub woofer.

So far the only option it is giving me for output is the US-122 and my computers speakers do not connect to the US-122 Line Out L and R hookups.

Why not?

Sounds like you need some adapters possibly. What are the connections on the US122, and what are the connections on the speakers?

A trip to Radio Shack might be in order.

No reason to take the Tascam back.

Most standard computer sound cards have a single 1/8" stereo minijack that you can plug computer speakers into.

The Tascam, according to what I found on it, has RCA outs -- one for the left and one for the right -- just like a CD player or cassette deck.

You could get by with an adapter that takes a 1/8" miniplug sterreo input and fans out to a pair of RCA jacks. Then you could use two RCA cables from the Tascam and connect them to your speakers.
