sup all?
just wanted to say ive been to a bunch of message boards and this one is by far the most usefull
mainly casue the people seem to actually care about this "hip-hop" entity that we are all involved
any way
i was thinking of posting some of my beats finally up on mp3.com
to get some feedback from yall
now should i first actually copyright my shit (through the gov't copyright office)
or does mp3.com have some kind of copyright thing when posting beats there?
and how do i go about posting on there?

thanks all
peace

Copyright through government is gonna cost you. Also I believe you need a compy of the music in sheet form as well as recorded to copyright. I believe MP3.com has some type. You can also prevent people from download in MP3.com. You can force them to only be able to stream it. My advice is wait till you have a record deal to copyright.

Its possible

It is possible to copyright a beat. Here's a lesson. When we 1st started we were unprepared. We were so geeked in letting our sh!t get heard we put it out their with no protection. Our beats were getting mad props from the cats in the city.We let this one cat from the chi check out our beat. And since we were hungry to do this thing,We were astounded to get respect from this prominent producer from the chi. Then 1 day, while I was chillin as usual.I heard the beat with a Chicago group rapping over it (phychodrama). And when w confronted the issue. It was nothing we could do about it cuz the beat had no owner.Dig.Comply yo beats on a music sheet, send in a copy to the office aqnd copyright it..This is a snake business dawg.Protect yaself...

MANNISH1 is right. People steal music. Depends how serious you are and how much u wanna spend

Uh oh! Sheet form?

How do I do that?

You mean I spent $30.00 and this punk ass can still steal that beat?:(

Pro-tools LE, but only to record. I don't compose music on the computer, ASR 10 and a seperate midi sequencer.:(

What about me?

I use Fruityloops most of the time(go head and laugh, but I must warn you.....I'm a F*ckin BeAsT)

I also sample sometimes.........Is there something that can be done to copyright this?

Good question,

I too sample from time to time, I've always wanted to use the James Bond theme for a beat, but I don't want to pay out the ass for sample clearance. :(

Hmmmmm........ With just the right ammount of tweaking, it might not even matter :D:D

Hey SPINSTERWUN, can moderators read PMs?

Can Dragon?

Do you get a cut from the compilation?

yo MANNISH1 when you say... < i want that James Bond beat.I'm thinkking bout being a G about it and still do my thang without paying for sample clearance>

Do you mean to say you gonna use it without clearance
or are you gonna use it as an inspiration do to a beat with that feeling
i'm not the Sample Clearance Police but the topic of this thread is "Copyright"...

You're correct it you cut-it-up and tweak it enough, they won't be able to indentify they sample.

What if I just replay it with the keyboard?
You're still going to have to get it cleared, even though it's just a replayed extrapolation of the orignal material. :(
