Anyone have a recomendation for an acoustic bass. I am a guitar player and looking for bass for recording and writing bass lines for my songs. I want to go acoustic so I can play and write without getting out the amp, but I also want the pickup so I can get out the amp and tie into the recorder easy.

If you want a keeper, try some of the Taylor Acoustic Basses. They are marvelous - sounds like a cross between upright and acoustic. They also sound great plugged in.

I will take a look at the Taylors. I have a dealer close to me.

Thanks guys

Good question. I just did some research on that. Go over to www.talkbass.com and search for ABG.

The Tacoma Thundercheif is the one to get. It has the most volume.

There seems to be a major problem with the majority of acoustic bass guitars. They are not loud enough. But the Tacoma is the one to get. Lots more volume. It is made in Tacoma, Washington.

They can be had at around $700 at MF. If this is too much, you can get the same guitar as an Olympia. These are made overseas and it has a laminated back, but since most ABGs sound weak. The Olympia could be a nice alternative. They run about $300-$400.

I own a Tacoma Thundercheif CB10 without the electronics. Very nice.

Good Luck.

Joe

I have a Fender BG-32 and love it. I use it for exactly that. Enough volume to use it with two guitar players and the built in electronics work supurb. I got it on ebay for under $300.

I haven't actually bought one, so take this with a grain of salt, but:

When I tried out what was available at Banjo Depot, the Tacoma one was clearly the best. (See similar, and presumably better informed, recommendation above).

Most of the others were pretty awful, in my estimation.
