need pads on drum overheads?

mostly i'm recording quiet stuff at home, so i rarely use the pads on my mics.

tomorrow i'm recording some drums and was going to use mc012's as overheads -- do i need to use the pads in that case?

Probably not.

If you do, they should come with the -10 db capsules.

they have the pads, i just didn't want to use them if i didn't need to; but also didn't want to hurt the mics!

You just have to watch and see how hard it's hitting the meters.If the meters are slamming when the pre is at low level, then engage the pad and try again.
