Hi all, I once built up a large home studio, then slowly started selling it all off. I kept the instruments and some of the rack gear, but now I want to start fresh and would like some advice. Here's what I need:
1) A console: I had a nice 24 x 8 console, but I don't need one that large today. I probably should get less than 16 channels though, just in case.
2) An audio interface: An AD converter to get the signal into the DAW (computer). I had a MOTU 2408 (Mk I), but I don't need that much now. Before, I was recording bands, but now, it will likely just be me.
So how about the two above combined? I understand that there are consoles that send digital to the DAW via firewire. Best of both worlds?
Note that since I have external rack gear and will be recording analog, that I may not want to be doing a lot of AD/DA conversions for a single channel. If analog consoles are still better sounding, I will stick with that and get another audio interface.
3) A MIDI interface, but I see there's another forum dedicated to that.
Thanks!
