Need new recording amp

I want a new guitar amp mainly for recording. I have a Boogie Mark IIC+, and am looking for a different sound. I was considering a BF/SF Princeton with reverb (for collectibility also), but that is pretty much where Boogie got it's sound, so I don't think it would be that different. I also considered a newer Fender Deluxe reverb....

Any suggestions? Not doing metal. Need good cleans, Id' like to get some tremolo (from a fender?), but good overdrive. I figure some of you will recommend Marshall stuff....never owned one.

Well i have the marshall mg30dfx and i have heard that the mg series is crap, but i have never played other marshalls so i dont know and its the best amp i have ever owned.

Maybe you should look into a Vox amp, they have a different type of sound and most have tremolo as well. :)

A fully cranked '65 Re-Issue Deluxe Reverb has one hell of an overdriven tone IMO.
 
Once upon a time I was lusting hard for a Cornford. I ended up with a Rivera Pubster. It's 25 watts (6V6's) into a 10". Like a Super Champ on steroids. Only a spring reverb though, but man, this is a nice little amp.

yea, but i dont want to fully crank anything since i am recording in my basement. while i have done some sound treatment, it's not pro, so I need something that gives good (tube) overdrive at lower volumes. Im thinking in the 15-20W range. Shoot, I was even thinking of getting a battery powered amp too just for something else.

I want to spend no more than $1000 really....aren't the "new & more affordible" vox's (AC-30) nowhere near their older handwired counterparts (more expensive).

More amps I have been thinking of:
Fender blues Jr
Fender Deluxe (hot rod)
some kind of Vox 1x10 low wattage amp

i dont know much about vox's stuff. can someone shed some lux?
 
seriously consider the new AC15CC. great amps. sounds perfect for what you need.

north coast music bench tests and breaks them in before they ship them to you.

The DeluxeReverb is 22 watts. Its still loud, but not really loud. It only has one 12" speaker ...and I don't think its a very efficient speaker at that. But for your "under a thousand" mark, go for a used THD HotPlate to use with the Fender for those late night sessions.

But if you already have a speaker cab, check out a THD UniValve. It varies from about 3-15 watts depending on what tubes are used. And it is right up your alley on the tone description. Has a built in HotPlate (the stand-a-lone HotPlate has more tonal options though). Plus its a tone freaks dream when you start experimenting with different tubes.
 
I've got several "small" amps (some good and some just so so) and they all have their unique sounds and limitations. The most used one is a Fender Princeton Chorus, crisp cleans, decent chorus, spring reverb, slightly grainy overdrive unless I back the presence down, onboard limiter, mono and stereo efx loops, no tremelo but otherwise a good small amp for use in the studio. I also have a Marshall MG 30 DFX, it dosen't sound bad but it is definately different from the Fender.
 
check out the carvin v-16 it is switchable between a 16w pentode mode and 5w triode mode, all tube celestion 12 in speaker sounds awesome...not a metal dirty amp but a nice crunch and killer reverb. I was skeptical about them till i bought one and all i can say is wow...this amp sounds a lot bigger than it is. its a lot like a blues jr but with better tone, louder, and much better reverb.

How about THIS. You can have someone on the weber forum build it for you for an additional cost. It's a 2 channel el34 powered amp with tremolo and reverb. I would imagine that the preamp is based on the 18 watt Marshall that has very chimey, beautiful clean tones and great touch sensitive overdrive (think Little Wing or Sweet Home Alabama). An old Fender deluxe would be a cool amp too. The cleans on a deluxe have a thicker, darker sound than the 18 watt and JTM marshalls. Just some thoughts for you. Good luck with whatever amp you choose.
 
Take a look at the VOX VT series of modeling amps. THe VT60 is my favorite.

For the money they are definitely very good. Does an outstanding job of emulating the old AC30, Marshalls and the Fender amps.

I played through a Silverface Princeton yesterday. It was nice. The tremalo wasn't what I thought. This thing was really mint condition too. I had it on 3 and it was pretty loud. I didn't get to crank it really loud and see what the overdriven side of it was like. I still want one eventually.

I found a good deal on a Vox AD60VT that I think I may swipe up. It seems to be very different than my Boogie MarkII. Moreso than the Princeton. Thanks for all of your input. Found some stuff I never heard of before.
