Looking to pick up an instrument mic and a vocal mic (probably large diaphragm)

Will go up to around $250 on the vocal mic, less on the instrument mic (will probably just get a shure sm57 for acoustic guitar etc duties but am open to suggestions)

Once upon a time I used the Shure 58 beta for recording vocals and liked the way it sounded with my voice, but again I am open to other recommendations. A friend of mine recommended an AKG large diaphragm for vocals (model number escapes me now) that was about $250 new

I'm all ears fellas... sorry for yet another noob thread....TIA for the help and suggestions

i use an audio-technica at 2020. my friend got it for free and i bought if off him for $75. I record everything with it (it's my only good mic) its great on acoustic, vocals, amps, even a drum overhead, piano... it'll do what i need. I'm pretty sure i'm going to pick up an sm57 soon too. It's a good choice... it works on many different levels (although many say its not great for just one thing, but does the job for most) so i'd get an sm57 for shure. ha ha. (jeez)

i tried using my audio techinica and a shure sm57 and stereo miced my brothers banjo and it sounded so sweet.

and btw the at 2020 is only $100. Pretty cheap, and although it's my only good mic (i don't/haven't really recorded drums so don't need more than one right away) i think it sound pretty good. Although i should get another mic for stereo micing (the sm57)

good luck with your choice (and sorry if i repeated myself a lot.)

Never used the 2020 myself but with a $250 budget you could do well in the used market. I've bought most of my mics on evilbay and here. Keep an eye on the for sale here and GS. Do some research. Tons of information here. Plenty of folks have asked this same kind of question. My suggestion on instrument mics on a budget would be Niant mics. Very good and the price will blow you away. If you read this today, quick, grab a pair of the MXL603's from MF with the stupid deal of the day.

i doubt niant would be sold locally and would have to be bough online.../(i don't have a credit card)

Call me crazy, but I might just use all $350 (your whole budget for both mics) and get a used at4050.

Unless you'll need to sing & play at the same time, or mic guitar cabs.

The 4050's a good choice. Another thought for vox would be the V67G. It goes new for around $100. For the acoustic guitar, maybe a Studio Projects B1. Also around $100 new.

Food for thought man.

I'm pretty happy with my ADK hamburg on vox and guitar. Its a great sounding mic. I did all the instruments (minus bass) on this track with it.
