Hello all i am new here!!! first i would like to take a minute to tell you what i have. This is so you get to know my equiptment and to get the piont across that space is limited.
I am an underground cartoon maker. I think this site is geared more towards music but i am hoping you will take the time to give me help. I just completed my sound proof room this month. I put about $6,000 into the room and equiptment so far. The room is 6ft wide, 5ft deep, and 8ft tall. I made the walls 10inches thick with various materials and acoustical baffles. The desk is set up 30in tall and raps around half the room. Since this is air tight i needed to build a fresh air flow system. I boxed off the left and right side. I used 3in duct work with a 50cfm fan to draw air from the left side to the right. So all of the floor space below the desk is taken up. On the desk i have the following:
1) off to the right i have an advertec laptop with 512mb, 60gb hard drive. Its small and i use it for music and internet searching.
2)A Polaroid 26 inch LCD high def monitor sits in the middle of the desk.
3) In front of the monitor is my logitech wireless mouse and key.
4) Off to the sides of the monitor i have klipsch promedia 2.1 sound system (the subs by my feet).
5) To the left i have my SONY VAIO dual processor 820(pentium D) with 1gb ddr ram and 250gb hard drive. I USE THIS FOR CARTOONS ONLY! I use the laptop for everything else. I do this because I need every bit of the hard drive.
6) I also have other things on the desk like 80gb portable usb drives(I take these everywhere i go as a back up) and a few zip drives and printer.
I run the following cartoon making programs: adobe photoshop, toonboom studios, adobe image ready, Adobe after effects 6.5, voice changer 6.0 diamond. I have taken 6 months to write 13 (A full season) 20 min. shows. After i have it made i am going to(outside my room) spend $5,000 on a pro dvd automated production and disk printer. As you can see i am dead serious about making my hobby a profession.
NOW MY QUESTION. I am looking at going with a heil pr40 mic with a pop filter LINK. It is mostly used for radio broadcast(art bell uses it). I found out a long time ago no voice changer program works on a profesional level. Live voices sound crisp and real because they are. I have myself and a few close friends that are going to do the voices over of the cartoon. I have looked at strait usb mic's and did not find anything i wanted to use. I do not know what sound card i have in my vaio. I would rather bypass my comp all together for the recording of the voice. I am sure some of you record your voice on a mic connected to a mixer(or something) then put it into the comp. How do i do it? Can you store recordings into a mixer then transfer it digitaly to the comp? Space is a factor so i cannot buy a huge mixer or what ever i need to turn it into a computer file. I have done some reaserch on how to connect a mic to a comp. the mic must be dynamic since it does not need dc power. Everything i have seen looks jerry rigged and the sound would only be as good as your sound card(if they are even compatible). I would greatly appriciate any help thanks!!!!!!!!

I am going to take your advice for sure. I looked up bob heil and found his number to his place. I will give hime a call next week. Your public profile even showed me what thread you were looking at
I subscribed to that thread on the first page. I am a hell of a guy 2. I will tell him you said hi from old acoustic control days. I want to thank you for answering my post. Your a level 10 and i am a 1. Most level 10's only answer level 8 or above questions because they get tired of saying the same thing over and over. Thanks for taking the time.
and i am in the process of building my second. I have read books on hoew to build home studio's, editing, photoshop, cinematography, you name it as long as it has something to do with making a cartoon i try to get my hands on it. Since i will have many people in my cartoon i will get a few mics. Used Sure sm58 and 57's for starters. I am going to need a few since i will have many people in my cartoon. I still am going to go see Bob to get fitted for a mic. I just wanted to be more educated before i did.(This kind of goes with your rent a studio that you wrote for rec.audio.pro FAQ). Bob has a good ear and i have a bad voice.(I did a little reasearch on bob too.) You seem alot like me. I dont know how you do it putting up with all the drama that comes from tring to get metal and rap to hold hands in here without blowing up. You always stay on topic with great help to all. I do not have knowledge to give back so i try to give back self esteem because you deserve it. I would love it if you sent me a photo of yourself signed "good luck on your cartoon" with my headphone order. I would be proud to hang it in my studio. Give yourself a pat on the back you deserve it.
Not the truth just my first impression. Its easy to tear people down isnt it. Its a shame you have so little to give back. I dont want to burn bridges with you, but I am not going to put up with you calling me a homo. Its a small world. I go up to downers grove twice a week. Hell i might have even asked to come by and see your studio and pick your brain if you had posted something nice. Anyway good luck to you and your studio Moon Unit Sound . I wish you the best keith.
