Need Mic Recommendation

I've asked this before on this forum, but here goes again with a different twist.
I've been toying around with the idea of getting a new LDC to go along with my tlm103 and KSM44. Excellent suggestions have been offered, mostly Gefell and Soundelux. But now I'd like to go on the cheap.
Since the tlm103 can be on the full but bright sounding side and the KSM44 on the neutral to brightish side, I'm thinking of something a little darker. The MXL V6 is looking interesting. It would have to be an internet purchase as no one in my area is carrying them. Any opinions or other suggestions?
Btw, pres are Toft ATC-2, GT Brick and M-Audio Tampa.

How about a SP T3?

Studio Projects T3 tube mic might be dark enough but may be more than you want to spend ($499).
My sE Electronics SE2200-A is fairly neutral but sounds similar in description to your Shure.
the sE is $299.
Check out the Carvin CTM100 tube mic at $300.
You can change the tube out to a lower output tube and maybe get what your looking for.

Oktava MK-319 or Groove Tubes MD-1B.

Or just try a ribbon mic or a good dynamic.

What are you wanting to record? If you're doing electric guitar work buying a good ribbon mic would have you doing backflips (for other uses as well, but this one being the biggest plus).

For cheap- Oktava MK319. For less cheap, AKG Solidtube. A lot of people don't like the Solidtube, but if you want a dark mic, it is a lot better than people give it credit for. I also agree that a good dynamic would be a different flavor- say SM7. -Richie

Recording mostly vocals and acoustic instruments. I've heard the Royer demo cd and felt impressed by the percussion, horn and electric guitar cuts - less so with the acoustic guitar and vocal tracks. I felt they had somewhat of a veiled sound, but that could be just my hearing loss speaking!

The MK319 and Solidtube may be worth a try. Just got a call from buddy that I haven't seen in a few years. He has an MK319 that he's fond of. We are planning to hook up for dinner, so that may be a chance to give it a try.

I'll have to look around for a MD-1B. Lot's of good endorsements on those. I'm missing that classic, late night FM radio sound in my mic collection - so maybe an EV RE20 is worth a try. We have a rental shop in town that's renting those for 20.00 a day.
