My band just got done recording ourselves live so that we can use the tracks to listen to and to make changes, and what not and see overall how we like everything and who messes up. Well we are just recording it using a Shure 57 beta vocal mic set in the middle of everyone within about a 4 foot radius from the mic.

The sound isn't distorting the mic or anything like that. However i was wondering if i can split the tracks so that i can adjust the tone and loudness of the individual instruments. I'm am new at this but any help would be great.

No, afraid not.

You need a recording device that can record multiple tracks simultaneously, or you need to spend a lot of time positioning yourselves/amps/drumkit etc. One mic recording is doable but multi tracking is much easier.

What are you recording into?

right now we're just recording into a laptop using audacity. I would like to run everything through our PA to get somewhat of a mix and to everything and then record but they don't want to spend the time. The room that we practice in is also huge. About 20X30 and with about 15-20 foot ceiling so there is alot of reverb from the room.
