Hi all. I'm new here so please bear with me.

I need to record quality voice only onto a computer. This is for a speech therapy application not for music. I will eventually need wav files.
I only need 1 channel and I'm not going to need any mixing / editing.

I'm not sure what I equipment I need. I was thinking a microphone like Shure SM57 or SM58 might be appropriate. How do I connect the microphone to my PC? Also, can I just use any old sound card in a computer or do I need certain features not available in common (cheap) sound cards?

Thanks for your help.

The Shure mics will do fine for voice. you need preamplification however, perhaps a stand alone pre. will do.
A stock soundcard would probably be sufficient, but an audiophile 2496 for around $150 new.. or less used would be excellent for that purpose.
If your gonna use your stock card you will need a conversion cable from your preamp to an 1/8" connector.
