First of all, I just want to say that you guys are great! There's alot of great info out here and as a novice recorder I really appreciate it...

Now to my problem. I've recently purchased some gear to start doing some samll scale home production/advancable to home recording. I've been trying to get everything to work, but I am having the damndest time getting the connections to work. If anyone can tell me the beast (easiest) way to route my equipment I would be quite greatful:

ASR-10 master)
MPC-2000 (slave)
Emu 1212m Sound card
(1/4" ins/outs left and Right, 1 midi in/out, 1 s/pdif in/out)
Eurorack UB802 (8 input 2 bus)
Stereo Tuner (Good One)
CD Player (ASR Sample)
Record Turntable (ASR Sample)

Emu provided Cubasis VST4, which I know is crappy, but it should suffice while I'm on my learning curve.

Look forward to your help.

forgot to mention there's a cpu thrown in there somewhere

Simple and direct generally gets the best sound quality and fewest problems.

Beyond that I'd say it's most valuable to study the manuals for the gear and try to get a grip on signal routing and gain staging. It may seem like an impossible maze at first but it gets better by studying the details. It's just a bunch of gozintas and gosowtas that need to be matched up right.

This may seem like a side-step answer, but it's really not. :)

Assuming you've got the Emu PCI card set up correctly, you need to plug the midi out of the ASR-10 into the midi in of the computer, find the page inside the keyboard and set the local on/off to the off position (this breaks the connection between the sampler inside and the keyboard) and plug the midi out of the computer to the midi in of the ASR. Then plug the midi thru of the ASR into one of the midi ins of the MPC.

If you want to take samples off of the turntable you will need an intermediary box --- I got mine at Radio Shack --- to bring the turntable to line level before plugging it into the ASR. Or take it through the tuner if it has line level outputs.

Other than that, it's just a matter of deciding which audio outs go where on the mixer and plugging the mixer into the audio ins of the soundcard.
