I want to be able to hear my guitar as I'm playing but when I do there is a delay of two seconds between the time the guitar is strumed to the time i hear it. I read manual with no luck. Is there some way I can tweek the cakewalk settings to get my effects on real time? Thanks

are you using any plug ins, or just a direct signal? i'm assuming you are using plug ins............so you're getting some latency?

More to the point, what software are you using? You need SONAR and a soundcard with WDM drivers to have even a hope of being able to listen to plug-ins applied as you record with acceptable latency. Cakewalk Pro Audio won't cut it.

found it

I'm using sonar with 30gb hd and 128mgb ram on a pent2. i found out how to apply effects to my live sound but now i'm dropping out like crazy. when i get up to about ten channels i drop out every time. would mixing down my drum guitar and bass into one channel and then going back to add vocals help this?

C7 is right, you could use more juice.

However, mixing multiple tracks down to single tracks - and then archiving the original tracks - would help. Also, applying FX destructively rather than in real time would also help. However, in both cases you have now limited your future mixing options.

Best to make sure you archive the original tracks before doing any destructive edits. At least this way you can recover the original track and start over if need be.

Make sure you archive and not just mute them. Muting still uses juice, where archiving doesn't.

Thanks for the help. I'll put in another 128mg and see what happens.
I just have one more question.
One of the things i like most about recording with my comp is that you can actually see the music all layed out for you like a ruller. But in sonar, when i load a wave or mp3 the music always starts before there are any lines on my ruller, like it's about a second behind. I don't have this problem with any other studio, just sonar. I do mostly guitar music and it messes my timing up bad when I think it should change by looking at it and it really changes sooner or later. And this only happens when I import audio. If I record the track using sonar the audio mathes up with the ruller perfect. What can I do?
