...And Justice For All
Hey y'all

ive had this valvestate vs30r for 11 years now ive taken the 30w celestion out and replaced it with a mesa boogie black shadow 50w ...- its been pretty beaten up ( the knobs anyway) from me transporting it from here in atlanta to ny and back several times...when the knobs are turned up it crackles loud and cuts out - it moves all around ( i know it shouldnt ) the volume works at 6 to 9:30 and 3 to 6

is there anyway to repair it?

no its not my only amp

thanks guys

It sounds like some contact cleaner might be in order, what you're describing sound slike a basic loose connection, possibly from dust/dirt/wear and tear.

Have you tried new tubes? My Marshall didn't crackle but it would lose volume and have static...new tubes solved it (both times)...

Telepaul has it correct. Cheapest possible fix. Warning!!!! to clean the pots you may have to remove the chassis. High voltage present! If you are unsure about your technique, pay someone to risk their life. thx.

There is at least one tube in a valvestate, but I don't think it would account for any crackling. I've had the same tube in my Valvestate 8080 since I bought it about 12/13 years ago. After that many years of general abuse and been lugged around everywhere, I was getting cutouts at one point, and even points where the overall volume would boost itself massively until I kicked it... and the reverb stopped working. Just a few loose connections needed resoldering and it was as good as new.

Good amps those old valvestates, robust, very little maintenance due to their mostly SS nature, and sounded way way better than the new valvestates.

the crackling is from the volume knob and other knobs getting knocked around in flight ....no tubes....the only time it crackles is when i try to turn it up

The only time I ever played a Valvestate was at Swarthmore Music in this little tiny college town in PA about 12 years ago and it really did sound fantastic but was out of my price range then. I kind of forgot all about 'em till this post!

In that case it may be as simple as taking a can of compressed air and blowing the crap out of the pots.
